"Kalapana Medley". Written by: Mackey Feary. Sung by: Mackey Fearey. Band: Kalapana. This medley contains in it's entirety "Juliette", "Moon and Stars", "Nightbird", "The Hurt", "Paradise". "Juliette" is my favorite track from this Hawaiian quartet, I had the urge to mix the lead guitar intro from the original to this new revisited version and Viola! the rebirth! "Mackey Feary" is a prolific songwriter, guitarist and vocalist that sounds very recognizable and similar to "Eric Tagg, Richard Page, Michael Sembello, Steve Lukather and Bobby Caldwell". Iremixed it through Bias Peak Pro VST & Garage Band. I have taken extreme measures sampling these recordings and spent many hours editing the audio fidelity to get it to where it is now. DSP effects processing and Audio Slate were added to protect the artist and myself for the work rendered to avoid public exploitation. This song speaks of special place called Kalapana.My sweet home. This song speaks of the memories of Kalapana. Knowing that my ohana is from there and I am from there ,this song is very special to me. We all remember Harry K brown Park with the black sand volleyball court and the orange slides that we use to go down on. You remember the drain pipe that use to go out to sea. Drain pipes was the best surf spot on this island. Walters store where all of the old timers use to play cards and us kids use to go down in the wishing well and grab money to by candy. Remember we use to swim behind the painted church and watch uncle Sam and my father throw net. And never forget Kaimu the most beautiful black sand beach. We use to jump off the coconut stumps into the water. What a place! Most of Kalapana is gone but my ohana and the memories still live on. Aloha and enjoy

IF there were a release of large amounts of radioactive material, then there SHOULD be high levels of Cesium (with a half life of 30 years). However, this is NOT the case... we are seeing literally very low levels in Hawaii and elsewhere... lower than the midwest united states!!!

CSAV Hawaii: Lava in Kalapana 2011
In January 2011, lava from Kilauea Volcano slowly fills low areas, covering the road, burying signs, and melting barricades. The lava flows through a kipuka of forest, and fallen trees smolder on the solid crust of very hot lava; methane flames ignite at the base of former tree trunks. In the final three seconds (2:00), flowing pahoehoe is seen in relation to the beautiful garden and home of a Kalapana resident, with permission of the homeowner. To illustrate how slowly this lava moves, the lava flow took 3 hours to reach the papaya trees, and another 5 hours to reach the home. Our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of Kalapana. Please note that lava viewing conditions change from one day to the next. Visit the HVO web site for daily updates. volcanoes.usgs.gov Please remain within the boundaries of the safe official viewing area. Civil Defense, advised by HVO scientists, determines which locations are best for visitors to see lava flows near Kalapana. Officers patrol the area to ensure the hours of 2 - 10 pm are honored. Once upon a time, in 1973, childhood buddies, David John (DJ) Pratt and Carl James Malani Bilyeu auditioned at the Rainbow Villa for the newest popular duo, C & K. Cecilio & Kapono encouraged them to put a band together. Malani was performing solo at the Oar House in Hawaii Kai and DJ was downstairs at Chuck's in Sunlight with Kirk Thompson. They got together in DJ's grandfather's garage with Bryant Mackey Feary, who was another solo act, at the Oar House. They wrote a few songs, rehearsed and there was a discussion about the meaning of Kalapana.
